“And we’re rolling … now!”

Those infamous words (usually followed shortly afterwards by “OK everyone … ready for Take 2”) have caused many a musician to drop their plectrum within the first few bars of recording.  There’s something very particular about trying to play for posterity rather than for the moment!

One way to minimise Red Light Syndrome is to get used to making recordings often, so that the act of recording (and listening to your own recordings) becomes normal, and not such a big deal.

So that is one thing I am going to encourage everyone to do this term, both in individual practice and in group rehearsals. Just get your phone out and do it! Let recording become part of practising.
